Goatacre booked a place in the regional final of the Npower National Village Knockout competition with a comfortable 106-run home victory over Shrewton on Sunday.

Winning the toss, captain Peter Turner chose to bat and Goatacre were given a solid start by Steve Gee and Rob Turner.

The 50 was reached in the 14th over and the rate began to increase as Turner hit five boundaries in two overs before being bowled by Stormonth for a fine 59.

Curwood joined Gee and the pair took the score on to 177 before Curwood was caught by Cruse for 16.

Gee fell for 69, his third consecutive 50, and Jif Wilkins was caught on the cover boundary.

This brought together Peter Turner and Kevin Iles, whose partnership caused mayhem. Turner hit 64 from 24 balls and Iles 42 from 17 balls, hitting 12 sixes between them.

Both fell in the final overs, but Ed Wilkins, John Wilkins and Sam Parish kept the board moving until the end to rack up 312-7.

In reply, a shell shocked Shrewton made a poor start as Barnet was bowled by Turner for two and Wright was caught by Jif Wilkins off Turner for six.

Peter Turner came on to clean up the tail as Shrewton were all out for 206 in the 39th over leaving Goatacre the winners by 106 runs.

Goatacre will now play Little Durnford at home on June 13 in the regional final.

Goatacre were beaten at Warminster in the Stroud & Swindon Wiltshire & Gloucester League Division 1.

Rob Turner and Steve Gee put on 51 before Turner was caught by Nash off Bridle for 14.

Jif Wilkins and Gee took the score to 119 before Wilkins was bowled by Maxwell for 33 as he tried to increase the tempo.

Gee continued to accumulate before going for 89 but a brilliant cameo of 23 from 15 balls by Ed Wilkins took Goatacre to a competitive 200 for 6 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Warminster made a shaky start when Adams was given out caught behind by Parrish off Rob Turner.

But Maxwell quickly chalked up 50 and went on to a fine century and with 63 by Coxon Tenty, Warminster raced to 204-1.
