SOME people were on the pitch, but the entertainment was not quite over for the season when Salisbury City rounded off its 2003-4 campaign with a series of events over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Former Liverpool and Scotland star and TV pundit Ian St John was the special guest at the club's Grand Sporting Dinner on Friday night.

A packed marquee enjoyed an entertaining evening listening to St John recall some memorable moments and stories from his playing days while comedian John Stiles, son of England world cup winner Nobby, was on hand to provide plenty of laughs.

But there was nothing comical about the sums of money being bid in the end of evening auction of sporting memorabilia.

Signed shirts by Real Madrid's David Beckham and Arsenal's Thierry Henry fetched £1,100 each, helping swell the club's coffers.

Making the most of the marquee on the pitch, the club then staged a beer festival on Saturday and a rock concert on Monday.
