13225/2Wootton Bassett's church fair proved a huge success, and raised more than £3,000 for the church.

The Bank Holiday Monday fair attracted record numbers of people, thanks partly to the beautiful weather.

Held in aid of the Sacred Heart Church fund, the fair was organised by church members including Ingrid Aspell.

Mrs Aspell said: "It was a wonderful day. We had cake stalls, plant stalls, a raffle, a bottle stall and all the usual things.

"We also had a beautiful vintage steam organ that played all the old tunes, and that proved very popular."

Mrs Aspell said: "Because Sacred Heart is a new church, only built a few years ago, we have a mortgage to pay off, and that is what this money will go towards.

"All in all it was a wonderful day, everyone enjoyed themselves and we had so many people there.

"We didn't keep an exact count because it was free to get in, but there certainly were a lot of people there.

"The weather was extremely kind to us on the day, as it was lovely and sunny."
