GOATACRE booked a place in the regional final on Sunday and will play Little Durnford at home on June 13.

Winning the toss for the sixth time out of six, captain Peter Turner had no hesitation in batting first and once again Goatacre were given a solid start by Steve Gee and Rob Turner.

They had to battle at first as Clancy bowled exceptionally well with good support by Jenkins.

The fifty was reached in the 14th over and the rate began to increase as the change bowlers failed to back up the opening pair. Drinks were reached at 95 without loss and the platform was set for a large total.

Turner hit five boundaries in the next two overs before being bowled by Stormonth for a fine 59, after a partnership of 120.

Curwood joined Gee and together they took the score on to 177 before Curwood was brilliantly caught by Cruse for 16.

Gee fell for 69, his third consecutive 50 and Jif Wilkins was caught on the cover boundary, trying to increase the rate.

This brought together Peter Turner and Kevin Iles, who in six overs of mayhem put together a partnership that took the game away from Shrewton.

The ball flew to all parts as Turner with 64 from 24 balls and Iles with 42 from 17 balls hit 12 sixes between them as 106 came from the last five overs, which at one stage included 58 from 2 overs.

Both fell in the final overs , but Ed Wilkins, John Wilkins and Sam Parish kept the board moving until the end.

In reply a shellshocked Shrewton made a poor start against some good new ball bowling by Rob Turner and Rahn Heer.

Barnet was bowled by Turner for 2 , Wright well caught by Jif Wilkins off Turner for 6, Stormonth brilliantly caught by Peter Turner off Heer for 10 and Rich Barnett brilliantly caught by Parish off Turner, to leave Shrewton 47 for 4.

Cruse and Jenkins took the score to 84 before Jenkins was run out by a fine piece of fielding by Curwood, who then bowled Cruse for 30 to end any hopes that the visitors may have had.

The game then petered out as Shrewton needing 10 an over were content to bat the overs and Clancy with 43 and Trevor Cruse with 24 took advantage of some wayward bowling to give their side a respectable total.

Peter Turner came on to clean up the tail as Shrewton were all out for 206 in the 39th over leaving Goatacre the winners by 106 runs.

Warminster v Goatacre

GOATACRE travelled to Warminster in the Wilts and Glos Division One on Saturday and batted first after winning the toss.

They were given a solid start by Rob Turner and Steve Gee who put on 51 before Turner was caught by Nash off Bridle for 14. This brought in Jif Wilkins who also batted well, as he and Gee took the score to 119 before Wilkins was bowled by Maxwell for 33 as he tried to increase the tempo.

Gee continued to accumulate and reached a fine 50 , but Goatacre struggled to up the run rate, as slow bowlers Cowley and Maxwell gave little away. Iles, Lines and Peter Turner all fell trying to force the slow bowlers and although Gee went for 89, a brilliant cameo of 23 from 15 balls by Ed Wilkins took Goatacre to a competitive 200 for 6 from their 50 overs, Maxwell finishing with 4 for 35 from 11 tidy overs.

In reply Goatacre made a good start when Adams was given out caught behind by Parrish off Rob Turner, as he along with Adam Iles bowled tidily at first.

But Maxwell and Coxon-Tenty gradually increased the tempo and the Goatacre change bowling was poor, which made it an easy task to pick the gaps all round the wicket.

Maxwell was first to 50 and went on to a fine 163. Warminster raced to victory with overs in hand.
