MARLBOROUGH slumped to defeat in the final over of the game in the club's bottom of the table clash with Hinton Charterhouse on Saturday.

Marlborough batted first, but were in trouble from the start when Tom Norris was out caught by Thomas from the first ball.

Fellow opener Andy Halliday and Hendy Alleyne then started to rebuild the innings with a stand of 51, before Halliday was run out for eight.

Bad turned to worse when Peter Day was out off his second ball, when he played it onto his own stumps, and Ajay Kumar was out first ball.

Suddenly 51 for one became 51 for four.

But at a desperate 53 for six Frank Whiting and George Fox came to the rescue and began to rebuild the innings. Whiting made an invaluable 64 before he was caught. He and Fox put on 112 for the seventh wicket.

George carried his bat with a respectable 46 not out, hitting five fours and one six. Tthe final score was 182 for eight.

Hinton Charterhouse's reply was similar to Marlborough's innings.

The openers Jenkins and Botton put on 41 for the first wicket with Jenkins out for ten caught by Halliday off the bowling of Nathan Morgan. Palmer was out for a duck and Botton was out lbw to Fox for 28.

With Paige out for one caught by Richard Turnell off the bowling of Vinay Sharma the score was now 58 for four with everything to play for.

Hinton's match winners were Fussell who made 61 before he was bowled by Fox.

Thomas made 53 not out and after Fussell's loss it was left to Parker to finish the game off with 11 not out. The winning runs were made with five balls to spare.
