CHIPPENHAM defeated Frocester by one wicket in a desperately close fought encounter at Pounds Close.

Frocester won the toss and went into bat where opener Nick Trainor scored 58 from 116 balls, including seven boundaries.

But just as Frocester's openers began to find there rhythm Chippenham bowler Richard Bates struck twice, dismissing Trainor and Ian Collins.

Adam Robson scored 12 before Steve Richardson caught him from Jason Seale's bowling, and Ashley Davis made just a single before Ian Merryweather caught him.

John Evans scored 27 and Dave Whincup 33 as the middle order offered Chippenham some resistance.

But Whincup's dismissal sparked a tail end collapse and Frocester lost four wickets for just ten runs.

Frocester were bowled out in 49.1 overs for a total of 182, while Chippenham's Jason Searle took four wickets for 56 runs and Richard Bates took three for 41.

Chippenham's innings was all about Richard Bates who scored 91 runs from 124 balls, including 12 fours and a six.

But he was eventually bowled out by Frocester's impressive bowler Matthew Obst, who took four wickets for 41 runs.

Jack Humphrys made 19 before Sam Evans caught him from Obst's bowling and Obst struck again to remove Ian Merryweather, who was caught by Nick Trainor.

Jace Lawson's wicket went for just five, before Paul Bates got Chippenham's innings back on track with 34 runs. But it was not enough and Chippenham were able to hang on and secure the win, with ten balls remaining.
