NORTH WILTS JUNIOR LEAGUE: SWINDON batted first at Calne and recovered from 78-7 to reached 131 for 9 declared in 32 overs.

This was due mainly to Vishal Patel who despite being bowled off a no ball when 0 went on to score a fine 27 not out. He held the tail of the innings together and was well supported by Richard Arkley (13).

Steve Laggett (17) made a useful contribution up the top of the order. Calne used eight bowlers, and the wickets were shared round, Fitchett being the pick taking 3 for 10.

When Calne batted Courtney Earl was again in blistering form scoring 84 in rapid time (13 fours and 1 six). He was second man out when the score was 99. This was cue for Luke Edwards to take over and he finished with a fine 30 not out.

The winning runs came in the 19th over, with Calne losing just three wickets in their run chase (Calne 20 points, Swindon four points) .

Wootton Bassett U13 started their season with a three wicket win at home to Purton.

Purton made a flying start after being asked to bat first with their captain Aaron Lee leading the way with 45. Bassett hit back with two quick wickets from Craig Kelly and the run rate slowed and Purton were eventually bowled out for 114 in the 26th over.

Contributions with the ball came from Tom Davies (7-1-30-3), Dean Williamson (7-1-33-3) and Kelly (4-2-14-2).

Bassett will be concerned that 52 extras were contributed to Purton's total. Bassett's reply was slow after losing a wicket in the first over and the home side were soon 8-3, Craig Miles doing the damage with a first spell of 3-7 from four overs.

Lee Horsell and Dean Williamson led a recovery with 23 and 22 respectively before some explosive hitting from Tom Davies (38 no) towards the end saw Basset home by three wickets.

For Purton, Craig Miles ended with the fine figures 5-10 from his seven overs (Wootton Bassett 17 points, Purton five points).

All Cannings were indebted to James Page who scored a fine 69 as the home side were bowled out for 114 in 34 overs against Biddestone.

Page was the only Cannings batsman to defy the Biddestone attack that was led by Paul Walden (4 for 14 off 6.5 overs), Andrew Lawton (3-9 off 6 overs) and Tim Knight (2-18 off 4 overs). Biddestone found batting even more difficult as opening bowler Mehdi Ibrahim took 4-10. Only Lawton (41 not out) offered any resistance as Biddestone were dismissed for just 67 to leave Cannings winners by 47 runs (Cannings 20 points, Biddestone 5 points).
