Tickets have gone on sale for the Wootton Bassett Summer Concert which features the world premiere of David Fanshawe's new work, Serenta: Mother and Child.

Mr Fanshawe, who lives in Ramsbury, will introduce his composition and play the piano part.

Gordon Nelson, from Marlborough, will conduct the Wootton Bassett Orchestra.

Mr Nelson has designed the programme to introduce a wider and more ambitious repertoire of classical and light music.

Organiser, Glenys France, said: "We have got a wonderful programme this year."

The Serenata features a clarinet solo with the chamber orchestra, which will be played by Katy Whitaker, who has been with Wootton Bassett Orchestra for six years.

Ms Whitaker, who works at the National Monuments Record Centre in Swindon, started playing the clarinet aged 11. She has played in youth orchestras and at the University of Cambridge where she studied archaeology.

Another soloist will be Julie Ash who will be performing Chaminade's Flute Concertino. Ms Ash studied music at the University of Sheffield and is now head of music at St John's School, Marlborough.

Clarinetist Kimberley Lauf, 17, who is studying music at Swindon College, makes her second guest appearance.

The concert is on June 12 at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall, Station Road, Wootton Bassett. Tickets cost £3.50 on the door.
