GAZETTE & HERALD: Hundreds of people took part in the annual duck race on the River Marden organised by Calne Lions Club.

The 2,500 plastic ducks were launched from the footbridge at Safeways car park and spectators raced to the finishing line to see who would be first.

Lions member George Lawson said: "As the ducks floated through they were cheered on by a very large crowd of several hundred race goers, who packed both sides of the river, all very eager to see the winner's pass the finish line."

The two ticket owners of the first ducks past the finishing line won £200 each, the second prize was £100 and the third prize was £50.

"A very large number of the spectators stayed behind and enjoyed the sunshine whilst visiting our side stalls.

"We would like to thank all the residents of Calne who took part in this fund raising event," said Mr Lawson.
