13201/3YOUNGSTERS from Southbroom Junior School have been finding out about wartime Britain. The pupils spent time talking to pensioners from Devizes who lived through the Second World War, including some veterans.
Thirty pupils, aged eight and nine, put the reminiscences into words and music when they performed playlets and songs at Devizes Library with members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
The project was started by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as part of its outreach work.
The orchestra's double bassist Angie Baker worked with the pupils over a number of sessions at the school and the library, which arranged for the children to meet members of the older generation.
Edwina Woodcroft, year four teacher at Southbroom Junior School, said: "The children were deeply interested in the project and they enjoyed talking to the older members of the community.
"The children were particularly fascinated about the details of how youngsters were evacuated to the country during the war."
