DEVIZES Festival 2004 gets under way this evening as the friends of the festival get a preview of the Festival Art Exhibition at the Wine Street Gallery.
The exhibition is entitled A Sarsen Circle and is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of the Wiltshire landscape, especially that around Avebury, Stonehenge and Devizes.
The painters represented include Vicki Dimmock, Val Hepplewhite, David Imms, David Inshaw, Rosalind Marchant, Anthony Meyer, Jenny Pape, David Scully, Carol Sproston and Mary van Reimsdyk.
There is also sculpture from Richard Cowdy and Eric Stanford, and ceramics by Ned Heywood, Roelof Uys and Rowan Whimster.
Some events on the festival programme have already sold out, including the tours of Wadworth's brewery, an Evening with Germaine Greer, comedian Dominic Holland, a tribute to Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt and all the music workshops.
However, there are still some seats available for the children's theatre production by Quicksilver Theatre at the Wharf Theatre, poetry and tea with Kit Wright and the sensational Martinu Quintet.
All details of the festival programme are in the free brochure available from outlets all over town.
