13200/2Opticians Nixon and Shaw have donated three pairs of glasses to children in The Gambia.
The opticians, based in Monday Market Street, Devizes, made the glasses after hearing from Bromham resident Dr Pauline Howard-Dale about conditions in a school in the village of Sanchaba Sulay Jobe.
Dr Howard-Dale is the sponsorship co-ordinator for the school, which has 1,300 pupils aged from three to 13.
She said that many children at the school had serious eye conditions.
"Parents can't afford to have glasses made for their children. In The Gambia a pair of glasses costs three months salary," said Dr Howard-Dale.
Optometrist David Shaw said: "The classrooms in the school are really big and if the children can't see the blackboard properly it's a real handicap. The spectacles should be really helpful to the youngsters."
