DEVIZES Mayor Margaret Taylor pledged that DASH2 (Devizes Action to Save Our Hospital) will continue the fight to retain services at Devizes Hospital.

Mrs Taylor was speaking at DASH2's first annual general meeting held on Tuesday night at the town hall.

As Devizes Mayor she has become chairman of DASH2.

She said: "I promise to do everything I can as chairman of DASH2 to keep the maternity unit and to see a new Devizes Hospital built."

Mrs Taylor said the Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Care Trust's announcement last week that it had unexpectedly overspent in the last financial year by almost £1.5million was appalling news.

The meeting was told that the planned new hospital for Devizes had been delayed because of a failure to agree on whether Devizes or Melksham should be the location for a diagnostic and treatment centre.

Mrs Taylor also paid tribute to Paula Winchcombe, the outgoing chairwoman of DASH2, for her hard work in the past 12 months.

Mrs Winchcombe has been appointed a second vice-chair in addition to deputy mayor Peter Evans.
