A KEBAB shop owner who was refused permission to open late has launched a campaign to serve late-night revellers the food they want.

Abudurrahman Kilinc, the proprietor of Oscar's Grill, in Wootton Bassett High Street, appealed to the Government after North Wiltshire District Council rejected his application to extend his opening hours and open on Sunday evenings.

His appeal was only part allowed.

He can open on Sundays but must shut up shop at 11.30pm whether it is a weeknight or at the weekend.

It was the second time he has been refused permission the first time he collected 900 signatures in support. Now he has started another petition.

Mr Kilinc said: "Most people don't start coming out of pubs until 11.30pm and that is the time we have to shut.

"It really affects the business, we lose a lot of customers but other takeaways are open later, it is quite unfair because we are just trying to make a living.

"Many of our customers want us to open later. We never have any trouble with people hanging around after the pubs close."

Mr Kilinc, who has run the business for eight years, wanted to open until midnight on weekdays and 2am on Friday and Saturdays.

An inspector appointed by the Secretary Of State refused the appeal because residents nearby would be disturbed by noise.

Currently in the High Street there are two Indian takeaways, two fish and chip shops, a Chinese takeaway and a pizza takeaway.

The town council has asked for the opening hours of all the takeaways to be reviewed because some seem to be allowed to open longer than others.

Town councillor Audrey Wannell supported Oscar's bid to extend its hours.

"I think it is unfair they have to close at 11.30pm, another half an hour could mean up to 10 more customers," she said.

"People don't leave the pubs until that time so I think he should be allowed to stay open longer.

"Some takeaways open longer than others. We have asked North Wiltshire District Council to review the situation."
