Although I understand many local people have known for some time about the possibility of a visit by The Prince of Wales to Marlborough, I am delighted, at last, to be able to announce officially that His Royal Highness will be joining local people on Friday, June 18, as part of your week-long celebrations of 800 years of Royal Charter.
I know the Prince of Wales is thrilled to have been invited to your market town and we are enormously grateful for your patience while the complicated logistics of the visit are worked out. While helping to frame the arrangements for The Prince's visit, we were very keen that the main part of the day's celebrations should take place in the High Street and in front of the Town Hall to enable The Prince to join as many local people as possible in this historic moment in the life of the town.
Everyone, I am sure, will be relieved to have confirmation of the visit and I am sure people will do all they can to make the day very special and memorable.
