GAZETTE & HERALD: St Andrew's Church is to receive a facelift worthy of the 21st century thanks to an ambitious £750,000 fundraising project.

The St Andrew's Project Making a Space for all People, was launched last Sunday and has been conceived by the vicar, the Rev Simon Tatton-Brown and a team of committed fundraisers.

Their aim is to provide improved facilities at the church and to restore the rare 18th century pipe organ, bringing it up to date with its evolving role in the local community and they intend to do it by enlisting the whole community's help.

The fundraising team hopes to raise the £750,000 needed for the ambitious project over a three-year-period.

Mr Tatton-Brown said that a new entrance area will be created beneath the new West End Gallery. The First World War Memorial Screen, which currently stands at the mouth of the chancel, will be relocated to the front of the of the gallery, leaving light from the chancel window to spill freely into the church.
