GAZETTE & HERALD: A NURSERY school in Box will have to fundraise for fancy dress costumes after 15 outfits were stolen from the building.

Staff and children at Magic Dragon Nursery, which opened in the village cricket pavilion three months ago, had £300 of costumes taken during the Box Revels show on Monday.

Nursery manager Sheelagh Jones, said the outfits stolen from a trolley left in the toilets were ones enabling children, aged two to five, to dress up as a doctor, nurse, shark, tiger and lion.

"The costumes were brand new," she said.

"They were well used and loved. We have been trying to explain to the children that somebody has stolen them but they are only young so are finding it hard to grasp.

"Staff are upset as well because a lot of hard work has gone into this place and we can't believe somebody would do this to the children."

Thousands of revellers gathered on the village recreation ground next to the pavilion, for the annual event and Mrs Jones hopes the Chippenham News can help prick someone's conscience into returning the costumes.

She said: "We noticed they were missing when we were getting ready for the next morning after the Revels had finished.

"We will have to fundraise for replacements unless the person who stole them reads this and decides to leave them by the door. We will be happy to have them back."
