A SIX-MONTH-OLD primary school is through to the finals of a national first-aid competition.

Over 300 pupils from Westbury Leigh Church of England School moved to a new building in Leigh Park in January.

Now the school has won the regional heats of the St John Ambulance schools competition.

The school is now facing competition from across the country at a national final at London Zoo in July.

Barbara Cooper, schools liaison officer with Wiltshire St John Ambulance, said: "I am absolutely delighted that Westbury Leigh has once more reached the finals. The school won the national competition in 2002 and has a very worthy team who have worked very hard.

Westbury Leigh Primary School won the county schools competition in April and beat four other primary schools from Devon and Hampshire on May 21.

The competition involved teams and pairs tested in realistic first aid scenarios.

Pupils and teachers moved from a 170-year-old building in Westbury Leigh in January, to a new 14-classroom school in Leigh Park.

The former school building in Westbury Leigh is expected to be knocked down for housing.
