A MAN was left with a broken nose and eye socket after an unprovoked attack at the newly opened Melksham skatepark.

The 33-year-old was attacked by four youths at about 4.30pm on Friday at the Bath Road site.

They punched and kicked the man until he was knocked to the floor where they continued to kick him before running off into the King George V playing fields.

The victim was also left with a displaced jaw and severe swelling and bruising to his face, head and body.

One of the offenders is described as having short, dark hair, wearing a blue top and blue jeans.

It is believed all the youths were about 17 years and are from the local area.

Before the incident they were sitting on a bench near the skatepark drinking.

Since the park opened there have been problems with young people using it as a place to meet and drink but Melksham police have said they plan to work with other interested parties to stamp out incidents.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on (01225) 763101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
