TEACHING assistants from across the county attended a presentation recognising their improved skills and qualifications on Wednesday.

Sixty-five assistants were presented with certificates by West Wiltshire District Council's director of education, Bob Wolfson, after completing a course to a Certificate in Professional Studies.

Mr Wolfson said: "Teaching assistants provide a vital service in helping to deliver high educational standards, so it is important we continue to invest in developing their skills.

"I am delighted to be presenting these certificates, which have been earned through hard work and dedication."

To gain the qualification the assistants had to complete two 3,000-word assignments through a course run by the University of Plymouth.

The course covers a broad range of skills at primary and secondary school levels, looking at behaviour and how children learn.
