TEACHERS from Wiltshire will join thousands of public sector workers from across the country for a pensions protest march in London later this month.

Organised by the TUC, the Pay Up For Pensions rally will draw attention to the Government's plans to shake-up public sector pension schemes.

A coachload of teachers will leave Hardenhuish School, in Chippenham, on June 19, with members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) warning young recruits they could face losing up to £100,000 under new proposals.

Mike Harrison, secretary of the Wiltshire NUT, said: "It may seem like a long way off to many of us, but there are proposals to change the pensions of most people working in the public sector.

"Our pension is simply part of our wages, paid to us when we retire. We pay into the scheme and we expect the money back when we draw our pension.

"The Government are consulting on changes to the pension scheme, which if passed will literally rob us of tens of thousands of pounds."
