A TEAM of greyhounds will soon be making their way through north and west Wiltshire with a couple of women in tow.

Fundraisers Sue Watkins and Jan Lake are taking on the sponsored walk with a difference and aim to notch up 110 miles.

Starting in Tarlton, Gloucestershire on June 12, the two- and four-legged walkers will travel through Box, Monkton Farleigh and Bradford on Avon before reaching Cerne Abbas, Dorset the following weekend.

Walkies 2004 will see Ms Watkins raise funds for Greyhound Rescue West of England while Ms Lake is supporting breast cancer charity The Lavender Trust.

Sue Watkins said: "I felt this was an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of the plight of greyhounds, and also to demonstrate what wonderful pets these dogs make. As some of them will be walking with me people can come and see first hand how well behaved greyhounds are."

Ms Lakes' sister died in October, aged 50, after an eight-year battle with breast cancer, prompting her choice of The Lavender Trust.

She said: "The Lavender Trust provides invaluable support to women who may be struggling to come to terms with the diagnosis of a potentially life threatening disease.

"It also helps them cope with the stress of treatment while maybe having to juggle a family, a job and all the other pressures of daily life."
