COUNCILLORS were last night expected to make a decision on whether or not a Warminster planning application can go ahead.
The applicant, A Barkshire, has applied to build 12 one- and two-bedroomed flats and two office suites on land near Market Place.
People living near the proposed development have objected on a number of grounds, including that it is too large, out of character with the surrounding area, will result in a loss of light and privacy to their homes and access problems.
Warminster Town Council has also raised concerns about the type of buildings proposed, the impact on residents and road safety issues. A report by the Highway Authority states: "The proposal does not make any provision for the parking and servicing of the development, within the application site, and it is therefore likely that all servicing will take place within the adjoining public highway, with consequent danger and inconvenience to other users of the highway."
To counter problems with access to the site and increased traffic, the developer has proposed bringing in controlled access with a drop down bollard so that only those authorised to access the site are able to.
The council's planning officer has recommended the application be approved.
