15253/4THOUSANDS of people enjoyed the bank holiday sunshine at the Bradford on Avon fun day.

The annual event, organised by the town's Lions Club, attracted crowds of up to 6,000 who enjoyed the mix of stalls, shows, food and entertainment on offer.

Lions Club president Ken Giles said: "It was hugely successful and luckily the weather was good.

"We had a new organiser, Margaret Prince, and she made a cracking good job of it and we hope she will do the same next year.

"We could tell it all went well because by the end of the day we had just about run out of food."

As well as a huge range of stalls and a car boot sale with about 150 pitches, people were able to enjoy entertainment provided by majorettes and a falconry display.

There were also 140 vintage cars, including some rare models, on show.

On hand to help out were volunteers from the Christian Fellowship and the ATC, who helped the day run smoothly.

One of the highlights of the day was the crowning of this year's fair princess and attendant, titles that were carried off by Emily Martin and Alice Garwood.

Last year's event raised over £3,000 and organisers are hopeful they can beat that total this year.

The money raised will go into the Lions Club charitable fund, which supports national and international causes but mainly ploughs money back into the local area.
