SOUTH Swindon MP Julia Drown has added her voice to international condemnation of Israel over recent destruction of Palestinian homes.

The Labour MP has backed a parliamentary motion accusing the Israeli government of following illegal policies.

According to reports, more than 80 homes have been destroyed in the Rafeh refugee camp, leaving around 1,000 residents homeless.

Israeli officials said the demolition was needed to combat militants and was justified for security reasons.

But Ms Drown refused to accept the claim and called on British ministers to put pressure on the Israelis to stop.

And she demanded a suspension to trade agreements between the EU and Israel which give favourable terms to Israeli business.

She said: "House demolitions on this scale breach international law and cannot be justified by Israel's claim of urgent military need.

"In May, 191 homes have been demolished in the Gaza Strip and 2,197 Palestinians made homeless."
