TEENAGE batsman Luke Morris scored his first league 50 for Trowbridge as they wrapped up an emphatic 58 run win over Stroud.

Morris, 16, produced a superb 72 in the home side's 202 all out before stand-in skipper Mike Beel led his team to victory with bowling figures of 4-24.

Saturday saw Trowbridge inflict Stroud's first defeat of the season and rise to second in the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Division One table ahead of tomorrow's derby clash at Warminster.

Trowbridge set an early run rate of five an over before openers Des Gingell and Richard Greatorex both fell for 15 and Morris and Cornelius Burger got stuck in.

Burger was caught at short third man for 25 and Rob Russam fell just short of his half century on 46.

But as Trowbridge looked to produce a really big total they suffered a late order collapse with no further batsmen reaching double figures.

This meant Stroud had an extra three overs to reach their target, but the advantage was soon ended by some tight bowling from Burger and Beel.

Burger went on to record 3-46, but the breakthrough came from Dave Hiscocks (2-34) who removed Ed Mobbs for 30.

No Stroud batsman passed Mobbs' score as the Trowbridge attack received good back up from energetic fielders.

Stroud were bowled out for 144, but remain 14 points clear at the top of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Division One.

Beel said: "Everyone played well, particularly Luke Morris who is only 16.

"He joined us from Westbury this year and has done very well.

"We have no problem putting him in at number three.

"The other results went our way as well, with Warminster losing and we are ready for them on Saturday."
