THE Three Lions roared to victory last night in a stunning three-goal football feast.

And one name was heard above the rest as fans spilled out of bars Wayne Rooney.

The 18-year-old Everton striker bagged two goals to help put England back on track after Sunday's devastating defeat against the French.

Hundreds of fans packed town centre bars to watch England make cheese of the Swiss and they did just that.

The first goal went in on 23 minutes, thanks to a Rooney header.

But fans had to wait until the second half for the second. Everyone would agree however, that it was worth waiting for.

It was substitute Darius Vassell who turned creator supreme on 75 minutes.

Holding back two defenders, he slid the ball to Rooney, who romped the ball home from 16 yards.

Appearing to have learnt the lesson the hard way on Sunday, England resisted the temptation to switch to cruise control and continued to push forward searching for a third.

It came eight minutes from the full-time whistle, courtesy of Steven Gerrard, who latched on to a sweeping cross to tap in from close range.
