GAZETTE & HERALD: THE family and workmates of Linda Havill have told of their shock and sadness after the 60-year-old grandmother died of a brain haemorrhage while driving home from visiting her sick sister.

Mrs Havill, of Loyalty Street, Chippenham, had driven to see her sister in hospital in Southampton on June 13 and was travelling back along the M27 during the early evening, when it is believed she experienced sudden head pains.

Emergency services were alerted when the Ford Fiesta Mrs Havill was driving came to a sudden stop on the motorway. She was treated at the roadside by paramedics before being taken to Southampton General Hospital, but she died at around 9pm.

Mrs Havill's son Darren, 37, who lived with his mother, said he believes his mother tried to phone him from her car, but was too ill to speak.

"I was at home having dinner and the phone rang, but when I picked it up the person didn't say anything."

Mr Havill was notified that his mother was ill by his step-brother. "We went straight down to Southampton Hospital but although mum was alive, she wasn't conscious," he said.
