Weston-super-Mare v Devizes: DEVIZES' journey to Weston-super-Mare ended in disappointment when they went down by seven wickets.

Devizes opening pair Paul Stobbart and Will Muse started cautiously, picking off the occasional boundary.

Having cracked a superb four through the covers, Muse tried to repeat the shot next ball, only to find the safe hands of the cover fielder for 12 runs with the score on 48.

Stobbart looked to up the run rate, clipping a couple of glorious shots of his toes, and driving through the covers.

With a sharp shower and play suspended for 50 minutes reducing the overs to 46, Devizes batting faltered on the resumption of play, with Tim Saye (12), Stobbart (35) and Jake McCauley (2) all playing poor shots in losing their wickets in the space of two overs to the bowling of medium pacer Williams.

Simon Whatling entered the fray, and decided attack was the best form of defence, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. He quickly passed his half century with some powerful hitting, taking his score to 67 from 63 balls, until he finally succumbed to the fine fielding and catching of the home side.

Devizes ended their innings on 168-8 , with Weston's off spinner Kersey collecting 4-52 runs.

In reply, both Bail and Biffin settled down against Devizes opening attack of James Ashford-Brown and Paul Vooght. Biffen survived a big appeal for lbw which the umpire turned down, and then followed it up with a difficult chance to McCauley which was put down.

With the score on 64, Devizes had their first breakthrough, having Bail snapped up by McCauley at point off the bowling of Mark Banham for 42.

Weston's skipper Bail batted with composure, knowing that time and overs were on Weston's side. Morgan joined his skipper at the crease, and straight away followed the way Whatling had done for Devizes earlier on in the day, by attacking anything slightly loose, scoring a run a ball 61 until he miscued a pull shot to Joe Hickey at square leg to give Banham his second wicket of the match.

Bail looked set for a hard working 50, until a late change of bowling, saw him dismissed lbw off the very part-time spin of Stobbart. Williams finished with a flurry of boundaries, taking Weston to victory.

Devizes have two important home matches, playing bottom side Knowle next Saturday, followed by a derby against Chippenham who are one place above them.
