I see that the charity CARP (Castlefields Canal and River Park) have stated their aims (Gazette, June 10) and, given their recent actions, these really need questioning.

Their first aim is to preserve so please can they explain why they are digging up some of the most beautiful areas of Calne that we have?

Their second aim is to protect so please can they explain why they decided to dig in the nesting season? Whose expert opinion did they seek for advice on this matter?

Their third and fourth aims are to develop and improve, so please can they explain how you improve on nature? The arrogance of anyone to believe they can develop nature is beyond me but CARP seems to think that it is putting in car parking facilities. Very natural, I'm sure.

I regularly walk and cycle around the Castlefields area and there is no problem with access. It is enjoyed by many people, locals and visitors The wildlife I see all seem to be perfectly happy I'm sure if you asked them the only improvement they'd want is for the developers to go away please.

Castlefields is just one of many beautiful areas of Calne and I urge all the people of our town to be proud of what we have to offer and protect it from seemingly narrow-minded groups who want to ruin things.

We've had enough of that over the years so let's start recovering and focusing our energies on the areas of Calne that really do need developing.

If any readers are proud of Calne then they should all join in questioning the aims and abilities of these developers.
