COUNCILLOR Sylvia Doubell wants to congratulate the district on its recycling efforts and say 'keep up the good work.' Pewsham residents get an extra pat on the back because they have the highest level of recycling in Wiltshire.

The amount of waste North Wiltshire recycles has risen 30 per cent in the past year and between April and July this year the amount of rubbish going into landfill sites was down six per cent. This is great news for the district.

North Wiltshire District councillor and town councillor for Pewsham, Mrs Doubell said: "I'm totally committed to recycling. I care about it a lot.

'It's worthwhile, it's working, but it's only the beginning. We've got to get to the situation where everybody in Wiltshire is recycling.

"I'm very proud of residents in Pewsham. Sixty-five to 70 per cent of them recycle compared to the average for a town, which is 55 per cent.

"It's a super little ward. It's a real community."

Last September black kerbside boxes were introduced by the Wiltshire Waste Partnership, which brings together Wiltshire County Council and its constituent district councils, in a bid to encourage people to recycle from their homes; and it seems to be working. Now 280,666 properties have the boxes.

Chippenham, Calne, Corsham and Wootton Bassett were targeted as the first towns to receive the boxes because they had the highest population densities.
