PEWSEY suffered another pre-season defeat against Shrewton at home last Wednesday evening.

It leaves manager Steve Wootton still searching for his first win of the summer. Pewsey did have the better of the first half.

They were denied twice in the first two minutes and struck the post. But the Shrewton defence stood up to the pressure.

Shrewton broke the deadlock one minute before the break through Dean Foot.

Shrewton doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Foot played a great through ball for Jesse Water to tap in.

The visitors' keeper Barnett denied Ritchie from getting one back for Pewsey.

He tipped another great shot away for a corner on the 64th minute.

Foot sealed the win for Shrewton with his second goal of the match. He saw the Pewsey keeper Wilson well of his line and played the perfect chip over Wilson into the net.

Manager Steve Wootton was pleased with the performance though. He said: "We had a great first half and we should have scored.

"Our keeper could have done better on their goal. He made it simple for them."

Wootton admitted his side's fitness looked suspect in the second half. Five of his players had just come back from holiday and looked a bit jet lagged.

But Wootton believes his side is starting to come together.

He said: "Apart from one or two players I had my ideal team out. I was much more pleased with this performance than I was with last Saturday's game."

Wootton is still looking to bring in a couple of new signings for the new season.

Brian Blake is still injured and will be recovering for another three or four weeks. Wootton said: "We need more strength and depth to the squad.''
