Battling Biddestone just didn't have enough class to match Dawlish in their first ever Screwfix fixture on Saturday.

Biddestone did not look uncomfortable against a side that were two leagues above them last season. Manager Gary Skidmore thought that his players deserved a draw or at least a 2-1 loss.

He said: "We did not expect to win but hoped to pull off a draw. They gave us a passing lesson in the first half and that took it out of our lads.

"One of their players was ex-Torquay United, where most of our players played youth football last season."

Dawlish took the lead after twenty minutes with some great passing.

It only took Biddestone ten minutes to reply with their first goal of the season. John O'Meara was crowded by defenders but he took the through ball and quickly smashed it in with his left foot from 20 yards.

Biddestone then ran their hearts out and almost took the lead before half-time through Steve Healy.

At the break Skidmore decided to change the formation, and it seemed to work. For the first half-hour of the second period, Biddestone seemed to get to Dawlish but couldn't press home an advantage.

A second goal 15 minutes from time seemed to break their spirit who up to had looked worthy of a draw.

A shot from 25 yards out then beat the Biddestone keeper Chris Snoddy and put the issue beyond doubt.

Skidmore was pleased with the effort his side put into the game.

He said: "We ran our hearts out out there. We did so well to hold them for 75 minutes.

Then the second goal just disheartened the lads. This is a learning curve and we took a lot out of this game."
