BRIAN Minter of Spin Hill, Market Lavington, has hit out at the length of time it is taking to introduce a reduced speed limit on the road.

Since the closure of the A360 between Potterne and Littleton Panell more traffic is using the route. On Saturday there was an accident involving a limousine and a Ford Fiesta. A male passenger from the limousine was taken by air ambulance to the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, and a woman from the Fiesta was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

Following the death of Sharon Oliver in a crash on Spin Hill in April 2003, residents and parish council lors launched a campaign to get the 60mph speed limit reduced to 30 mph. A petition was signed by 220 people and presented to Wiltshire County Council's regulatory committee.

In May this year the county council consulted on a scheme to reduce the speed limit to 30 mph from the roundabout at Canada Rise to the end of the housing on Spin Hill and a 40 mph limit to the top of Spin Hill and down Ledge Hill.

But after hearing that some residents wanted the 30 mph limit extended along the whole of Spin Hill parish councillors asked the county council to make an amendment.

This will be considered by the county council's regulatory committee on September 8, which will mean the speed limit could not be instigated until October at the earliest.

Mr Minter, 61, said: "Although I would like to see 30 mph along the entire road, I don't think we are going to get it and we have to be content with 40mph at the top of the hill as it is difficult to travel at more than 30 mph on the bend."
