Ref. 72597-17MP Julia Drown bought the first Christmas cards as a Swindon charity shop began trading for the festive season.

Cards for Good Causes runs the shop at the Tourist Information Centre in Regent Street and last year raised just under £7,000 for a variety of charities.

Liz Boardman, area organiser for Cards for Good Causes, said: "As soon as Julia had finished buying her cards there were members of the public waiting to buy as well."

She said that the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is among the charities benefiting this year from a cause which last year raised £6.4m throughout the country.

The MP for South Swindon said: "I was delighted to launch the second year of the tourist information centre selling charity Christmas cards."

Cards for Good Causes will be trading from a second outlet at the West Swindon Library this year. Anyone interested in being a volunteer at their shop should telephone 01249 709147.
