15983LIFELONG Scout supporter Cyril Full laid the foundation stone for the new 1st Westbury Scout HQ in Meadow Lane on Saturday, as work on the £75,000 building gets into full swing.
The 74-year-old president of Warminster and South West Wiltshire Scouts began his career with the 1st Westbury Wolf Cubs in 1938.
Beaver Scout leader Gareth Morris said the building, which will open early next year, will have a big impact on the group's 50 scouts and 14 leaders.
"It's going to be phenomenal. We acquired the old building in about 1948 or 49 and it was used in World War Two," Mr Morris said.
"It had come to the end of its life. It was standing as much by the paint as by anything else. The building will have an updated kitchen and better storage facilities. But the main thing for the scouts is the big hall itself where we will do most of the activities."
