Finalists in a competition to win a trip to New York were tested on their knowledge of the city at a Trowbridge garage

Listeners to radio station 3TRfm entered the competition for a chance to win five days in New York and £500 spending money.

The competition was a joint promotion between the radio station, Ford dealer Reed of Trowbridge, Howard Travel and the Wiltshire Times.

Called super squares, it was based on New York's grid system and five finalists who gathered at Reed's Canal Road showroom had to answer three sets of questions, including naming theme tunes of TV programmes set in New York.

The person with the most correct answers and most squares on the grid was given first chance to choose from five unlabelled CDs. Once all finalists had a CD they took it in turns to play it in one of the cars. The winner would be the one whose CD played Frank Sinatra's New York, New York.

Matthew Jones, from Warminster, Rob Hopkins, from Trowbridge, Louise Riddick, from Frome, Sarah Ilott, from Coleford and Julie Brown, from Bristol, waited to play their CDs.

With only two left to compete, Julie Brown yelled in excitement as Frank Sinatra belted out his famous tune on her CD.

Mrs Brown said: "My horoscope said there would be lots of travel.

"My sister and I already have a trip to Australia planned and I will be taking her to New York with me."
