September 22 2004: RACE organisers need volunteers to marshall this year's Swindon fun run and half-marathon.

They need people to act as course and finishing marshals and people to staff the drink stations and distribute goody bags.

Volunteers would be in a good position to cheer on family and friends in Swindon's biggest running event since 1988.

The race is organised by the Evening Advertiser, Nationwide Building Society and Swindon Council.

Proceeds from the run will go towards Swindon Cares, an umbrella charity that makes donations to Age Concern Swindon, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the GWR Community Trust.

To register for the event on October 17 or volunteer your help telephone 01793 464751 or visit www.swindonhalfmarathon.co.uk

The closing date is October 4. Entry fees: Half-marathon £12 or £11 for running club members; 4.3-mile fun run, £5; two-mile fun run, £3. A 50p reduction is available to holders of a Swindon Card.

You don't have to be super-fit to take part in the 4.3 mile fun run, but for anyone not planning to run there are plenty of other ways to participate.
