ON-STREET parking meters could be introduced in west Wiltshire towns as part of plans to increase enforcement and protect residents' access to homes.
A cash-strapped budget could also see West Wiltshire District Council hiking up parking charges to create up to £80,000 of extra revenue.
The district council is also looking to follow other authorities in introducing a decriminalised system, which will make parking offences a civil matter and could net up to £50,000 extra income.
Decriminalised Parking Enforcement is designed to clamp down on offenders by making it easier to collect fines.
Police are charged with enforcing on-street parking regulations, but the new system would see the district council add this to existing responsibility for car parks.
The policy is likely to take 18 months to implement once all Wiltshire districts sign up.
Motorists will no longer have to pay to park outside Bradford on Avon train station after it was revealed the district council had wrongly been charging them.
