A 21-YEAR-OLD Warminster man involved in a street brawl in the garrison town has been fined £250.

Matthew Cockerill, 21, of Portway Lane, admitted using abusive words and behaviour when he appeared at Chippenham Magistrates' Court on Thursday,

Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said police arrived at the scene of the fight at 1.30am on September 25 to find a large group of men brawling on the ground.

The court heard Cockerill was on top of another man punching him in the head with both fists and officers had to pull him off.

Gordon Hotson, defending, said: "Mr Cockerill is adamant that he did not struggle or try to break free. He put his hands up straight away but despite that he was grabbed and slapped down on the bonnet of a car."

As well as a £250 fine Cockerill was ordered to pay £43 costs.
