TROWBRIDGE Town manager Neil Kirkpatrick has branded Quarry Nomads "a disgrace to football" after ugly scenes marred their Hellenic League Division One encounter at Woodmarsh on Saturday.

A mass brawl followed the final whistle, after an incident between assistant manager Ian Diamond and one of the Quarry officials, where it is alleged Diamond was punched.

Nomads chairman Keith Dolton denies anyone from his club threw a punch and accused Diamond of punching him and swearing at his daughter and club secretary Amanda Blake.

Kirkpatrick was already fuming at the behaviour of the opposition, claiming a number of robust tackles had left him fearing for his side's safety.

Trowbridge have compiled a report on the incident and have sent it to the league, while the referee has also reported both sides for the melee at the final whistle. Nomads have written a letter complaining about the hosts.

Trowbridge's 4-2 win has lifted them into second position ahead of tomorrow's match at Ross Town but Kirkpatrick admits the aftermath has meant the result was the last thing on his mind.

He said: "I had a number of my players telling me they were scared for their safety and that should not happen in football.

"Ian Diamond went up to shake hands with some of their guys and after being sworn at he was punched in the face. Obviously all our players ran over to try and help Ian and their players became involved and it all looked very unsavoury."

Diamond, 56, said: "I went to shake hands with a couple of their officials. One refused and the other one swore at me.

"I just told them I didn't think that was very sporting when one of them punched me square on the jaw.

"I pushed him away to stop any more punches and he fell over the railing. Then it all kicked off as the players ran in and got involved. I definitely did not punch anyone or swear at anyone."

Quarry Nomads chairman Keith Dolton denied any punches were thrown at Diamond.

He said: "He swore at my daughter and punched me. I then put my arm up to stop him but that was it. I thought some of their behaviour was over the top as their manager and assistant kept complaining all game. But it doesn't bother me. I love football and it was good to see such a big crowd.

"We have got a bad reputation but if anyone misbehaves at this club I make sure they do not stay here.

"I don't want to take it further because I only received a little punch. Although my daughter has written a letter to the league."
