Gloucester's Nigel Melville is in determined mood ahead of tomorrow's Zurich Premiership clash at Kingsholm against NEC Harlequins (3pm).

He said: "Last week against Bath was not good and we gave away too many penalties. We need to be a lot smarter against Quins. We'll be fired up for this weekend's game."

Melville and coach Dean Ryan welcomed back the England Elite players to Kingsholm this week, and have a number of selection options to consider in the build-up to tomorrow.

Phil Vickery came through 40 minutes against Wasps in Monday's Zurich A' League game, and could be competing with Gary Powell and Terry Sigley in forthcoming weeks for the No 3 shirt.

"Vicks played the first half on Monday night and that was the plan. He won't get back to his best without playing.

"It was good for him and good for all of us for him to come through the Zurich A game, and he may play a part. He could be on the bench, but we'll have to wait and see how the week progresses," said Melville.

Vickery said: "I've got to be at a certain level to be able to play in the Zurich Premiership, and I believe that I'm somewhere near that."

New loosehead prop arrival Christo Bezuidenhout came on in the second half against Bath, and the Springbok international is in contention for a starting shirt for the Quins game.

Vickery said: "It was good for Christo to get involved against Bath. He met the guys last week and trained with them, and has now had this week to be part of the set-up. If Christo starts it'll be good for him, and that's why we got him here, to play."

One player who will be missing from first team action for a number of weeks is England under 19 full-back Olly Morgan.

The 19 year-old is set to be out of action for three months after injuring ligaments and fracturing a bone in his wrist while on duty with England's Junior Academy this week.

Morgan, who has yet to make his first team debut, has impressed in the Zurich A League this season.

The injury came during a judo session at Bath University this week, and Melville said: "I am very disappointed because he has been one of the outstanding players in the A team this season.

"Olly has great ability and now he will be out for three months. I am really disappointed for him."

Gloucester have sold more than 10,500 tickets for the game. The ticket hotline number is 0871 871 8781.
