28805/2CHILDREN at a Trowbridge primary school no longer have to practise musical instruments in the hallway or staffroom thanks to a new classroom.

Two new rooms at the school were officially opened this week, with nine-year-old pupil Katie Rutland cutting the ribbon.

Katie was selected after headteacher Richard Brown asked children to write a letter explaining why they should be chosen.

He said: "Katie's was easily the best letter. She explained her personal qualities and what a good student she is and why she wanted to do it and she asked very politely."

Building on the classrooms finished in June and although there are a few finishing touches left, the youngsters are already able to use them. One room is a large group room, to be used mainly for ICT, and the second room is for music, technology and cooking

An area for music was badly needed as all pupils are given the chance to learn an instrument.
