Troy GibbsA JUDGE has given a 23-year-old father a last chance after he launched a homophobic attack on a man in Trowbridge town centre.

Troy Gibbs, of Eden Grove, Whitley, was on bail for another assault at the time of the incident and had failed to complete a probation order already imposed.

But a judge at Swindon Crown Court gave him a 'last chance' on Friday after hearing he had recently become a father.

Marcus Davey, prosecuting, said Gibbs' second assault was on Michael Abbot as he was walking through Trowbridge town centre.

Mr Davey said: "He was accosted by Troy Gibbs who shouted 'You queer, you poof'. He tried to ignore it but he was pushed from behind by Gibbs. Gibbs was aggressive and tried to punch Mr Abbot, but missed.

"A friend of Gibbs' then headbutted Mr Abbot to the side of the face. Gibbs then joined in punching him to the head and temple area."

Gibbs admitted breaching the probation order for two assaults, obstructing a police officer and two counts of failing to surrender. Martin Steen, defending, said his client now had a seven-and-a-half-month-old child and had sorted his life out.

Ordering a new two-year probation order Recorder Ian Glen QC said: "You have got to understand this time if there is a breach of it the court will have no option but to send you to prison."
