DRIVERS are facing diversions as they head into Swindon's town centre this weekend as engineers carry out water main repairs.

Thames Water has applied to Swindon Council to close the westbound lane of Wootton Bassett Road between the railway bridge and Mannington Roundabout so the essential works can be carried out.

Traffic will still be able to head into the town centre but will be diverted on to different routes as it heads for the Great Western Way and the M4 at Junction 16.

The road will be closed from 6.30pm tomorrow to 6am on Monday.

Bus services will also be affected. During this period outbound Services 1, 1A and 53 will be diverted via Penzance Drive and Great Western Way to Mannington Roundabout. The outbound stop in Wootton Bassett Road before Mannington Roundabout will be out of use.
