THE first youth drama productions in over 12 years in Pewsey will be taking place tomorrow and Saturday.

The three one-act plays, interspersed with dramatised poetry, are being presented by the newly formed youth section of Pewsey Vale Amateur Dramatic Society (PVADS).

The producer and director is Annette Powell who was surprised when she moved to Pewsey from Kent six years ago that the local drama society did not have a youth section.

Young people aged between ten and 16 have been rehearsing during the summer months to ensure the youth theatre production called Night and Day is a success.

Many tickets have already been sold to the families of the young actors but there will still be some for sale on the door, said Mrs Powell.

In total, 24 young people are involved in three one-act plays: Shadows, with a cast of four, is about a young girl auditioning in an empty but haunted theatre; Rabbit has a cast of 15 and is about a group of children who survive a nuclear war; A Dog's Life with a cast of six is a comedy about dogs, but with a sad ending.

Mrs Powell said that of the 24 young people taking part only four had appeared in PVADS productions before.

Some of the young actors will be taking part in more than one of the plays, said Mrs Powell, who has appeared in most of the PVADS productions over the past four years, although this is her first move into directing and producing.

As well as acting in the plays, youngsters are also helping with the set, have made their own costumes, doing their own make up and two are helping with the lighting under grown-up supervision.

The shows tomorrow and Saturday both start at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Head and Robins electrical store in North Street.
