FUNDRAISERS across the county were out in force for this year's Ted's Big Day Out to raise money for the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Judith Mott, of Hazlewood Road, organised a fundraising walk from her home in Melksham to the RUH before handing over nearly £200 to the hospital.

Mrs Mott, 39, made the 12-mile trek with her son Toby, nine, and 71-year-old mother Cynthia Joyce.

The family's decision to take part in this year's event came after the death of Judith's father at the RUH last year.

Mrs Mott wanted to raise money for the hospital and chose October 8, which would have been her parents' 49th wedding anniversary, to complete the walk.

"My father died at the RUH last year, and also my father-in-law," she said.

"My son has been quite upset by it so we thought we'd do something to help with his frustration and sense of loss.

"The response from people has been brilliant. Most people in the area are very much in support of the RUH."

The walk took nearly eight hours to complete, after the trio walked along the Kennet and Avon Canal through Semington.

Setting off at 8am they were rewarded for their efforts on arrival at the hospital.

"When we arrived we didn't expect them to meet us but they sent someone down and gave us a memento pack with cuddly toys, drink bottles and badges," Mrs Mott said.
