PAUL Brickley believes his Westbury side are finally beginning to show why they were being tipped as title favourites in the summer.

After inflicting a first away defeat of the season on high-flying Willand, Brickley hailed his players and insisted they could beat anyone in the league.

A disastrous start to the season put paid to Westbury's promotion challenge, but new boss Brickley is delighted with recent progress.

He said: "We are getting towards the level we all know we should be playing at. The spirit and atmosphere is very good now as everyone is working for each other.

"The position we got ourselves in the league is a problem but we are finally showing are true form and that is without the so-called stars, who have left the club."

The first half on Saturday was one to forget as defences dominated and neither side looked like breaking the deadlock.

After the break, Westbury piled on the pressure and they were rewarded on 70 minutes when Marc Lanfear took advantage of David Steele's slip to score the opener with a low finish.

Ten minutes later Willand were reduced to 10 men when Russell Jee handled Pete Ayton's goal bound shot on the line and Seals lotted the resulting penalty into the net for the second goal.

The final goal in injury time was a first senior goal for 16-year-old Rob Taylor, who dispossessed goalkeeper Brian Cann and rolled the ball into the empty net.
