76552-38SOUTH Swindon MP Julia Drown will lobby parliament over the new Gambling Bill.

Mecca Bingo in Regent Circus is angry that it will not be able to increase stakes and prize money when new legislation comes into force.

Under the plans eight regional casinos will be built. No announcement has yet been made regarding their locations.

But Mecca Bingo, which has joined a national campaign to force the Government into a re-think, believes there is a chance one such casino could come to Swindon.

Manager Andy Campbell said: "Bingo clubs are social clubs they provide a safe place for people to meet.

"All ages come here it's not just pensioners. We get up to 200 players on a good night.

"There is a real threat that a big casino could come to Swindon.

"We have had a massive response to this campaign. It's a clear demonstration of how passionate our customers feel about the future of their club."

Ms Drown said: "I met with representatives from Mecca Bingo on Friday and I understand their concerns. I will lobby the Government on their behalf."
