A MAN found lying at the roadside in Park North was not the victim of a hit-and-run, police have confirmed.

The 43-year-old man, from Park North, was found unconscious in Whitbourne Avenue in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He was found by a passer-by who called the police.

He had head injuries and blood was splattered on the road. When officers arrived he was drifting in and out of consciousness.

He wasn't carrying any ID, just keys and a lighter. Police have since been able to identify him, but have not yet released his name.

He was taken to the Great Western Hospital where he was sedated and treated for head injuries.

He had a pain in his chest and left arm.

PC Barrie Card, of Westlea police, said he was keeping an open mind about what had happened but the man had consumed alcohol prior to being injured.

The man will be interviewed again about whether he was assaulted, but his injuries were not consistent with being hit by a car.

The man is to be discharged from hospital later today. If anyone has any information call PC Card on 01793 528111.
